I think it is important for me as a designer to know and understand the stages and development of written language from a variety of culture, because any kinds of design are inevitably associated with a certain specific historical stage of human civilization and when designer was creating things, they must embody some humanistic thoughts and simply some cultural ideologies. once we understand their cultures, it is good for designers to understand the development of written language, and know why they think like that? How did they create these words? based on what?
In addition, the written language has two main characters, which are “information carrier" and "Vision graphics". Each country has their own culture and their written languages are all based on their cultures so, as designers, understanding the language fully, searching and exploring different cultures are the important way to improve the design creativity and appealing works.
For my own experience, I am a Chinese student and now I am learning in America, Truth speaking, it is hard for me to learn everything in English, the things I saw; the word I spoke are all English. It is all different compare with my country. Therefore, I just learn how to survive in America through learning America’s culture, their behaviors and how they speak to someone and how they writing and thinking. There are many things that I need to learn. Back to my design work, at the beginning of designing, I still use the thinking of Chines and my work is still looking like the Chinese style. However,when I start to learn the America culture gradually, I start to combine the element of America with element of China, and make it better.
